Chevron Phillips Chemicals’ presence in Belgium dates back to 1968, when Phillips Petroleum opened an office in Overijse, outside of Brussels. It now has a plant in Tessenderlo, one in Beringen, and the company’s Europe, Africa and Middle East (EMEA) headquarters in Diegem. Since its inception in 2000, Chevron Phillips Chemicals International has aimed to be the premier chemical company known as the employer, supplier, neighbor and investment of choice.

Chevron Phillips Chemicals (CPChem) produces chemical products that are essential to the manufacturing of over 70,000 consumer and industrial products. The company is one of the world’s top producers of olefins and polyolefins, and a leading supplier of aromatics, alpha olefins, styrenics, specialty chemicals, polyethylene piping and polymer resins.
Benny Mermans, EA Region General Manager, explains: “As a global petrochemical company, with a strong European specialties manufacturing footprint, based on in-house developed technology, focusing on sustainability and advancing through innovation, we see Belgium as the ideal platform for growth in Europe.”

The Belgium advantage is best demonstrated through the logistics network. Ports such as Antwerp provide the infrastructure for Chevron Phillips Chemicals to address the most competitive element in the industry – the supply chain costs – for global distribution. Improving these networks alongside multimodal solutions to decrease congestion around major mobility hubs will push Belgium to be even more attractive.
"Our Belgian manufacturing base comprises our organosulfurs production in Tessenderlo and synthetic lubricant (PAO) production in Beringen, both specialties aimed at driving innovation and sustainability."
Chevron Phillips Chemicals is working to grow their business and meet the increasing global demand for petrochemicals in a manner that protects the world’s land, water and air resources. CPChem’s facilities in Belgium are finding innovative ways to recycle and lower their environmental footprint. Through assessing baseline emissions and continual monitoring, the company has managed to lower emissions and reduce its carbon footprint through energy efficiency measures.
Chevron Phillips Chemicals is a co-founder of The Alliance to End Plastic Waste and recently signed the Declaration of the Circular Plastic Alliance, because they want to make it clear that plastics do not belong in our oceans or environment.
Chevron Phillips Chemicals was also selected by customers as the best European polymer producer of HDPE in 2019. The “Best Polymer Producers Awards for Europe” are awarded by the Polymers for Europe Alliance and are an integral part of the European plastics industry.
