The devastating effects of the flooding that hit parts of Wallonia last summer are still very present.
Tap water is not drinkable in many parts of the region and victims are only gradually reconnected to the gas pipes enabling them to cook, dry their walls and warm their homes.
Carrier Fire & Security started an initiative to help on-site in a very direct way.
Over the last three weeks more than 20 Carrier employees supported the Belgian Red Cross in Wallonia to distribute sandwiches, water and fruit for lunch and warm meals for dinner. These meals were served by a mix of Red Cross employees and volunteers on five Red Cross locations, and three mobile teams reaching out door to door to people living more remotely.
Over the past weekend, our last mission ended and it gives us all a warm feeling knowing that the good work will continue to be carried out by other volunteers stepping up.
During 11 missions our colleagues worked in perfect harmony to serve more than 6000 meals to people in need. We are also happy to mention that no incidents were reported.
Victims much appreciate the ongoing support they receive from volunteers, traveling distances and spending their time to help.
CARRIER F&S way to support
Considering the time needed for Carrier volunteers to travel to the impacted sites to support the community, Carrier Fire & Security is supporting this initiative by considering ½ a day spent on site, as working time.
In addition, touched by the situation they witnessed up close, several employees will continue to support the victims on their own initiative.
As 2021, a difficult year in many aspects, comes to a close, we can all be proud to see such initiatives being carried out.
We are a team with dedication and a sense of responsibility, and it shows once again in this support initiative!
