Since the outbreak of the pandemic in March 2020, travelers from Europe, who are not either US citizens or permanent residents, have been prohibited from entering the United States in an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19. President Biden renewed the so-called ‘travel ban’ in January 2021 (Presidential Proclamation 10143). There are a number of exceptions to this proclamation, including, most relevant for the business community, the National Interest Exception (NIE). Among other categories of travelers, the NIE covers certain technical experts and specialists and senior managers and executives.

During this flash briefing, Mr. Scott Driskel, Consular Chief, US Embassy Brussels, will explain more about the current travel rules as well as the profiles and procedures for the National Interest Exception. He will happily take questions from the audience after his presentation.
